    Off Road & Day Trips

    Tierra del Sol’s 54th Annual

    Desert Safari

March 4-5-6 found the San Diego based Tierra Del Sol’s Desert (TDS) Safari meet in full action.

TDS is one of California’s largest not-for-profit, family oriented 4×4 clubs. TDS Desert Safari is one of the longest running off road events in the nation!

More than 100,000 people, even more jeeps and four-wheel-drive vehicles of every brand and description, all converging in the desert area near Salton Sea, and the NE corner of the Anza Borrego State Park, came out for the event.

You take a late model Jeep that costs around $50,000 or better, add another $40,000 in wheels, tires, suspension, and other aftermarket goodies, and you’re ready to go four-wheelin’! Now if you want to go “Extreme” four-wheeling, strip your vehicle down to bare bones, and invest the north side of $125,000 dollars and you are now the proud owner of a competitive rock crawler. The idea here is to be able to climb over rocks larger than a D-8 tractor (or bigger). The more times you roll over and the more damage you can inflict on your vehicle all add to the fun and the applause you receive.

Not sure as to personal damage and blood, but hey, show business is show business. I would be happy with just ten percent of all the money invested in what I saw in vehicles, motor homes and toy trailers. Hell, with that, I might even paint Henry!
